Laptops have become an essential accessory for work and for entertainment. These cashflow deficiencies clearly indicate Taiwan’s competitive disadvantages in the international energy market, but also represent key opportunities for Taiwan to improve its position in the global economy through focused innovations on alternative energy sources.

With the prospect of continued relocation of labor-intensive industries to economies with cheaper work forces, such as in mainland China and Vietnam, Taiwan’s future development will have to rely on further transformation to a high technology and service-oriented economy.

This year’s Best Global Taiwan Brands survey featured representatives from a diverse array of industries, including: consumer electronics (Asus, HTC, and Acer), sports and health (Giant, Merida, and Johnson), IT (Advantech, Delta, and MediaTek), financial services (CTBC, Cathay, and Chailease), food and beverages (Want Want, 85℃, and Uni-President), and Cosmetics (CHLITINA).
Taiwan boasts the region’s healthiest stock market – TAIEX – and at least a quarter of the population of 21 million invests in it. “Some people criticize the market as a money game, but stocks have performed well recently,” points out Peter Chow, a professor of economics at City University of New York, who often lectures on the island’s entrepreneurs.

Oyster vermicelli (Taiwanese: oa misua, “-er-meesua”) is the English name for a kind of noodle soup that is popular in Taiwan. Convenience stores are a huge deal in Taiwan, and there are a number of popular chains like FamilyMart and OKMart. Taiwan’s dependence on the United States should continue to decrease as its exports to Southeast Asia and mainland China grow and its efforts to develop European markets produce results.
Not only does it specialize in delicious seafood (there’s something for everyone if you don’t like seafood), but also every stall has its specialty marked in English, and it is easily Taiwan’s most photogenic night market. Interbrand’s survey also found that a large number of consumer industry brands are working on comprehensive changes to product, services, and experiences.

This includes stores like Parkson, Shanghai Bailian and foreign brands like Wal-Mart. Although Microtek was the first company in Taiwan to enter the scanner industry, local startups soon followed. Taipei’s street food game is so strong, that this vibrant city is considered to be one of the greatest street food capitals in the world.
Types of food: Taiwanese-style fast-food noodles. Tiger Brand Rice Noodles is very famous product in Taiwan. Chun Cui He is one of the most popular bottled beverage brands from Taiwan. A Cosmed sales assistant told me that MBD was mainly popular with Chinese tourists because it was priced steeply in overseas markets.
The variety of fruits here is astounding, and many of Taiwan’s shuiguo (Chinese for fruit) are highly sought-after by consumers around Asia. Taiwan has been somewhat isolated from China, and while in Taipei you can enjoy some of the local dishes influenced by Chinese, Japanese, and local Taiwanese styles of cooking.
